GLAD joins our friends and community in mourning the loss and celebrating the life of Jim Hormel. Jim made history as the first openly gay U.S. ambassador in 1999, following his nomination by President Clinton to serve his country as Ambassador to Luxembourg. His leadership, philanthropy, and activism across decades made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many in the LGBTQ community and beyond.

Our hearts are with Jim’s husband, Michael, and his children and family as we remember and celebrate him with gratitude.
