GLAD is at the cutting edge of the historic fight for full equality and justice. Through impact litigation, education, and public policy work, GLAD’s precedent-setting work has established anti-discrimination laws for LGBTQ+ people and protected the rights of those with HIV throughout New England.

Graphic Design & Multimedia Intern
GLAD is now accepting applications for Fall 2023.
The Graphic Design and Multimedia Internship provides an opportunity to practice and increase graphic design and multimedia skills and to gain experience using those skills to communicate a nonprofit mission. The Graphic Design and Multimedia Intern plays a key role on GLAD’s Public Affairs and Education team, supporting and providing creative input into the visual communication of GLAD’s mission to end discrimination based on gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, and HIV status.
Typical projects may include but are not limited to:
‣ Creating visuals for GLAD’s website
‣ Creating engaging infographics, gifs, and other graphics to communicate GLAD’s messaging on the GLAD blog and social media channels
‣ Produce flyers, fact sheets, posters, and postcards for events and presentations, and to share legal rights information
‣ Design and layout for in-house print and web publications
‣ Video editing and captioning
Qualifications
‣ An interest in LGBTQ+ rights and/or work in the nonprofit sector
‣ A passion for visual communication
‣ A desire to increase design skills and use visuals to communicate a nonprofit mission
‣ Proficiency in Photoshop, Canva, or comparable graphics software
‣ Experience with InDesign or other desktop publishing software
‣ Experience with additional graphics (i.e. Illustrator) or multimedia software (i.e. video editing, After Effects) a plus
‣ Photography skills a plus
This is a stipend internship.

Public Affairs Intern
GLAD is now accepting applications for Fall 2023.
The Public Affairs & Education Department is looking for an intern to assist the department in communicating GLAD’s ground-breaking legal victories to the public and make sure that LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive people are aware of and can exercise their legal rights.
Typical projects may include but are not limited to:
‣ Representing GLAD at outreach events (including Pride celebrations, tabling forums, discussion panels, etc.)
‣ Assisting with logistics of upcoming events and workshops
‣ Drafting blog posts and assisting with social media projects as well as administrative tasks
‣ Working one day per week on GLAD Answers (additional training required)
‣ Some data entry and administrative tasks
‣ Maintaining and updating GLAD Answers and other Know Your Rights materials (will be guided)
Qualifications
‣ Should have a strong desire to make contributions to the LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive communities and preferably have some experience in an office setting.
‣ The ability to complete self-directed projects is necessary
‣ Strong organizational, research, and communications skills are required
‣ Attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work with a team are critical
‣ Excellent time management skills
‣ Public speaking or outreach experience and interest
‣ Additionally, candidates with knowledge and expertise in social media are encouraged to apply

Legal Intern
GLAD is now accepting applications for Summer 2023.
GLAD is looking for highly motivated legal interns to help advance our work. Our legal interns perform extensive legal research and writing related to all areas of GLAD’s work and may have opportunities to:
- Support active GLAD litigation
- Engage in public policy advocacy and public education
- Work one-on-one with GLAD attorneys on research assignments.
- Attend GLAD’s Legal Department meetings other case/project-related meetings.
GLAD welcomes applications from 2L and 3L law students who:
- Possess excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Have a demonstrated commitment to tearing down outdated laws and stereotypes that have denied full equality for LGBTQ+ people and those living with HIV/AIDS.
- Have a passion for securing racial and economic justice.
Our Summer internships can be either full-time or part-time positions. We also invite part-time internships in the Winter and Spring terms. Stipends of up to $2,000 may be available for summer legal interns depending on the number of hours worked and restrictions imposed by your school.

Special Events and Fundraising Intern
The Development Team at GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) is searching for a Fall Intern to help us raise the funds needed to secure ground-breaking legal victories, conduct policy advocacy, and educate the public on the most pressing civil rights issues impacting LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have an impact on LGBTQ+ civil rights and may be considering a career in the non-profit sector, fundraising, or event planning.
Typical projects may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with sponsor and donor follow-up, event planning, and logistics for GLAD’s events including regional events and Spirit of Justice
- Assisting with data cleanup and updates in Salesforce
- Researching vendors and venues and assisting with planning and logistics for GLAD’s fundraising events
- Conducting donor and prospect research
- Thanking donors for their gifts by phone, email, and handwritten notes
- Assisting with mailings and other fundraising support as needed
Qualifications:
- Interest in non-profit development and/or event planning
Passion for social justice, LGBTQ+ and HIV+ rights, and racial and economic justice - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to ask questions, as well as the ability to take direction
- Working well independently and as part of a small team
- Showing initiative and follow-through in a dynamic environment
This is a full-time 350-hour minimum internship with a stipend and an expected start date in September and end date in December. GLAD’s office – located at 18 Tremont Street, Boston, MA – is open 9am-5pm with flexibility in schedule. This is a hybrid position with some required in-office hours, attendance at GLAD’s Fall Spirit of Justice Event on October 27th, and the option to work from home for a portion of time.
