Allison Wright

Staff Attorney

Allison has served as a Staff Attorney at GLAD since 2012.  During her time at GLAD, Allison has primarily dedicated her work to addressing issues impacting LGBTQ people of color. Currently, Allison is representing a Latinx transgender individual who was denied services because of their race and gender at a clothing pantry operated by a religiously-affiliated non-profit. Previously, Allison co-counseled a case with Greater Hartford Legal Aid involving a Black transgender student who faced both race- and gender-based harassment and discrimination at her Connecticut high school.  In 2014, Allison was named one of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s Lawyers of the Year for helping a prominent Ugandan LGBTI activist gain asylum following President Museveni’s signing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in 2014.  In 2013, Allison challenged a homeless shelter’s denial of equal treatment to a Black transgender client, resulting in a model policy for transgender inclusion at shelters across Massachusetts.

Allison has also litigated Title VII employment non-discrimination cases in Massachusetts and Connecticut federal district courts, and is currently pursuing a claim at the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights on behalf of a transgender youth in Rhode Island who has been the target of prolonged harassment at their elementary school.

Allison received her J.D. from UC Hastings College of Law and graduated magna cum laude from Spelman College.
