MA Supports Trans Troops
Use the sample language below to send a message to your legislators today asking them to urge Governor Baker to support transgender troops.
You can find your legislators and their contact info here
The Trump Administration began enforcing its shameful and discriminatory transgender military ban last month.
While we continue fighting this ban in court, there is something you can do right now to take a stand against this cruel and baseless policy: let’s make it clear that Massachusetts supports transgender troops.
There is an effort underway in the legislature, led by Representative Domb and Senator Lesser, to urge Governor Baker to officially oppose this ban and affirm support for transgender service in the Commonwealth’s National Guard.
You can make a difference by contacting your legislators today and asking them to join this effort.
At least six other states have already made a commitment to support transgender servicemembers serving in their state National Guards. Use the sample language below to send a message to your legislators today asking them to urge Governor Baker to do the same.
If you are represented by Senator Lesser or Representative Domb, or by any of the legislators listed below, please send them a message thanking them for this effort, and then forward this request on to your friends and family throughout Massachusetts.
Massachusetts has always been a leader when it comes to fairness and human rights – including transgender rights. Let’s make sure we lead now.

First step: find your senator and representative and their contact info here
Then, see if your legislators have already signed.
If they haven’t, call or email your MA senator and representative with the following message:
Dear [Your Senator or Representative]:
As you know, the Trump Administration began enforcing a ban on military service by transgender people last month.
Transgender individuals have been serving honorably in our military for years, and this policy is a harmful and discriminatory step backwards. It weakens our armed forces and is contrary to our American – and Massachusetts – values of fairness and equal opportunity for all.
I am writing to ask you to join the letter circulated by Representative Domb and Senator Lesser, asking Governor Baker to make Massachusetts the seventh state to officially oppose the transgender military ban and publicly affirm the Commonwealth’s support for transgender service within our state’s National Guard.
Please email Elizabeth May (Elizabeth.may@masenate.gov), Legislative Director in Senator Lesser’s office, to sign-on to the letter.
A policy that discriminates against people because they are transgender has no place in Massachusetts. Anyone who is qualified and wishes to serve should have the opportunity to do so – and no soldier should be singled out for different treatment because of who they are.
We have a chance to show that support again now by asking Governor Baker to oppose the transgender military ban and support transgender troops in the Massachusetts National Guard. I hope you will join this effort.
