GLAD and the National Center for Lesbian Rights filed a brief urging the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the District Court’s ruling against an Idaho law banning transgender girls and young women from participation in school sports.

The brief makes the case that Idaho’s “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” is anything but fair. The Act was motivated by a bare desire to harm transgender girls and young women and serves no legitimate government purpose. Rather than promoting fairness and equality, the Act discriminates against a vulnerable subset of women and girls and perpetuates unfounded stereotypes that have long fueled sexist discrimination against women in sports.
