Victory! On July 10, 2019, Governor Sununu let Bill 669 pass into law without his signature.

On March 6th, 2019, GLAD Staff Attorney Chris Erchull submitted testimony to the New Hampshire House Transportation Committee in Support of House Bill 669, An Act Relative to Gender Identity Information Included on Drivers’ Licenses and Nondrivers’ Identification Cards – a bill that would add the third “X” gender marker on state issued identification cards.

HB 669 adds a gender neutral designation option to New Hampshire driver’s licenses. The “X” designation already exists in 11 other states and the District of Columbia and is an important step to protecting the privacy and safety of all residents. This legislation would allow people to obtain identification that correctly reflects their gender identity, specifically those who identify as neither exclusively male nor exclusively female.
