Our nation is at a critical fork in the road. Will our courts, our democracy, and the rule of law serve only the interests of a few? Or will it be a bulwark protecting all our human rights and our freedom to thrive, just as we are?

With your support, GLAD is charting a bold new strategic path to pursue the promise of freedom, equality, and justice for all of us.

The pursuit of justice

We fight for the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people, and our work connects with the struggle of all marginalized communities for equity and equality. Together, we can make our democracy more inclusive, more representative, and more just.

We all deserve the chance to thrive on our own terms. For LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV there are still too many doors to economic and life opportunities closed. We work to bring down barriers and stop discrimination wherever it happens: at the workplace, at the cash register, in housing, or in the classroom. There is no reason for putting limits on the kinds of lives LGBTQ+ people should lead.

The pursuit of peace of mind

For too long, harassment, violence, and harm have been part of LGBTQ+ people’s lives. We work to address the discrimination that leads to violence, and to hold institutions accountable for protecting LGBTQ+ people where we live, work, and play. Physical safety is not enough; we’re working to foster the peace of mind we all need to thrive.

Many Americans cannot take access to health care for granted. For LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV, stigma and discrimination can raise the bar even higher, putting quality care out of reach.  Whether we’re challenging laws that criminalize healthcare for transgender youth, expanding access to PrEP, or pushing insurers to cover lifesaving treatments, GLAD is fighting for the wellbeing of all.

The pursuit of family life

Our fight for the equality, safety, and dignity of LGBTQ+ families continues – to defend our right to marry whom we choose, expand reproductive freedom, and protect parental relationships of all stripes. We’re bringing about a future where everyone can pursue family life as they see fit, with the recognition and respect we all deserve.

We find meaning in the ways that we belong: to our families, our communities, our nation. But too many LGBTQ+ people and those living with HIV are made to feel like outsiders. Maybe it’s a school curriculum that denies our existence, public records that treat us like second-class citizens, or systems and practices that put our worth and identity into question. At GLAD, we’re using the law to make it possible for all of us to find our dignity and feel valued for who we are.
