Statement of GLAD’s Executive Director Janson Wu in response to Supreme Court’s Action on President’s Travel Ban

We are disappointed that the Supreme Court chose to partially lift the injunction on President Trump’s travel ban, delaying a hearing on the constitutionality of the ban until October.

The ban, which targets people from six majority Muslim countries, is divisive and discriminatory. The portion of the ban the Court has allowed to go into effect will harm particularly vulnerable communities, including refugees and asylum seekers.

We stand in solidarity with all immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers – LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ. Our nation is at its best when we embrace our ideals of inclusivity and generosity. The travel ban does not make America “stronger” but seeks to divide us, and we refuse to be divided.
