In Maine, No One Tells Anyone Else How to Live

“You know, in Maine, no one tells anyone else how to live,” says Dan Lawson of Monroe, Maine. Alexander Johnston of Cape Elizabeth, standing with his wife and two daughters, says, “Everyone should be able to marry the person they love.”

A loberstman, a waitress, a firefighter, straight couples and same-sex couples, families with children - all express their support for the Maine values of fairness and respect. And all express their support for marriage equality, in a new ad, “Together”, that began running today on Maine TV:


“There’s a lot of understanding in Maine that gay and lesbian families need the protections that only marriage provides,” says GLAD Civil Rights Project Director Mary Bonauto, a Mainer herself.  “We see this real sense of fairness all across the state.”
