Victory in Connecticut: Court Bars Family Institute of Connecticut as Party to Marriage Case
In a decision pertaining to GLAD’s marriage equality lawsuit Kerrigan and Mock v. Department of Public Health, the Connecticut Supreme Court barred the anti-gay Family Institute of Connecticut from the case. The Family Institute sought intervener status in order to present their point of view that gay people cannot be good parents. The Court said, “We conclude that the institute has not identified an interest of ‘direct or immediate character’ that will cause it to gain or lose anything as a result of the judgment in this case.”
Calling the Court’s ruling barring the anti-gay group from the marriage equality lawsuit “the only just and logical conclusion,” GLAD heralded today’s decision.
