Support for Trans Protections in Massachusetts

On Tuesday, May 15, Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC), The Gay and Lesbian Labor Activist Network (GALLAN), and Clock in for Equality - National Day of Action for Workplace Equality sponsored a Transgender Equality Lobby Day to support passage of House Bill 1722, “An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes.” The bill was introduced in the House on January 10, 2007, by Representative Carl Sciortino and Representative Byron Rushing.

GLAD was an original drafter of the bill, which would add “gender identity and expression” to all the state’s non-discrimination laws, as well as the hate crimes statute. The goal of this legislation is to make clear that transgender individuals have equal protection under the law.
