NH Senate Approves Marriage Equality, Fails on Transgender Rights
The New Hampshire Senate voted 13-11 Wednesday to pass civil marriage equality legislation, with an amendment that spells out certain implementation measures. The bill will now return to the House - which approved the original legislation last month - for reconciliation, before moving on to the desk of Governor Lynch.
The Senate failed to pass transgender non-discrimination legislation, voting the measure “inexpedient to legislate.” This disappointing vote comes after a hard-fought campaign in which many courageous transgender citizens and their families and allies came forward to tell their stories and explain the need for legal protections. GLAD will continue working with our partners in New Hampshire to ensure that this crucial legislation passes in the near future.
