Showing Support for CA Marriage Equality
Equality supporters across the country came out on Saturday, November 15 to protest the passage of proposition 8 in California and show support for marriage rights. GLAD attorney Janson Wu spoke at the Boston rally. You can read his remarks and view photos here.
The next step being taken in California is a legal challenge to Proposition 8 on the grounds that the measure “is invalid because the initiative process was improperly used in an attempt to undo the constitution’s core commitment to equality for everyone by eliminating a fundamental right from just one group - lesbian and gay Californians.” (from the National Center for Lesbian Rights/NCLR press release)
Update: The California Supreme Court has granted review of the legal challenge to Prop 8 and has set an expedited briefing schedule.
