GLAD Launches New Website for Maine Marriage Equality Stories

Today, GLAD launched a new website campaign in collaboration with EqualityMaine to help bolster public support for marriage equality. Maine LGBT couples are encouraged to submit their stories to the site to help spread the word that LGBT couples in Maine are severely disadvantaged without marriage equality.

GLAD’s executive director, Lee Swislow:  “If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our experience fighting for marriage equality throughout New England, it’s that the most powerful tool we have to win hearts and minds is the personal narrative. When people hear from their friends, families, and neighbors about why marriage equality is important, often their perspective shifts.”

Visit the website at: MaineTheWayLifeShouldBe.org to read about York, Maine’s Jim Bishop and Steve Ryan; when Jim was sick last year, Steve was there for him like any loving spouse would be. Or, check out the story of Jennifer Curran and Carolyn Thomas, who live in Falmouth, ME. Jennifer and Carolyn have been together 13 years and have a four-year-old daughter they are concerned about:  “We want our family, and in particular our child, to enjoy all the same rights and advantages as everyone else.”
