Senior Manager of Events and Donor Engagement
Working with the rest of the development department to keep our major donors invested in and informed about GLAD’s work, Robbie utilizes his extensive event planning and fundraising experience to improve upon GLAD’s successful annual events. As development’s liaison he engages with donors motivated by GLAD’s Transgender Rights Project.
In 2011, his work at GLAD and within Boston’s progressive community was recognized, when his birthday, September 16, was named “Robbie Samuels Day” by the Boston City Council. Robbie co-organizes Socializing for Justice (http://www.SoJust.org), a grassroots group he co-founded in 2006 to build a cross-cultural, cross-issue progressive community, network and movement in Boston based on the philosophy of abundance. He also provides trainings on the Art of the Schmooze, Fundraising: Getting Past the Fear of Asking, QPR: Suicide Prevention for Community Leaders, and Intercultural Awareness. Robbie's background, prior to joining the staff in June 2005, includes organizing on the grassroots, regional and national levels with positions at OUT IN LI, Empire State Pride Agenda, Sustainable Long Island, Fenway Community Health, AIDS Action Committee, The Task Force and The Theater Offensive. His other passions include being a strong advocate for building an anti-racist LGBT movement, his work with the National Organization for Men Against Sexism’s Boston chapter and educating about trans experiences as an openly trans staff member.
